Atlanta-based mezzo-soprano, Sandy Sharis, is a choral composer and performer of oratorio, early music, and choral music. As a soloist, Sandy has performed in venues such as the Vatican’s St. Peter’s Basilica, Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Greyfriars Kirk, the Peace Center, Duke Chapel, the Arsht Center, Woolsey Hall, and other venues in the US and Europe. She has performed the mezzo-soprano/alto solos in J.S. Bach’s Johannes-Passion, Magnificat, Mass in B Minor, and Weihnachtsoratorium; Handel’s Messiah and l’Allegro; In the Land of Uz by Judith Weir and Canticle of the Sun by Amy Beach, and more.

In addition to her solo work, Sandy enjoys performing with choral ensembles such as Servire, Seraphic Fire, the VOCES8 US Scholars, Chicora Voices, Audivi, Kinnara, and others. She has also performed with early music groups such as The Sebastians and the Mallarmé Players.

While studying at The Ohio State University, Sandy was selected a winner of their Concerto Competition, the Wilson Vocal Competition, and the NATS Artist Awards (Great Lakes Region). She was also a soloist at the 2020 OMEA Conference and performed the operatic roles of Cherubino in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro and Le Prince Charmant in Viardot's Cendrillon

An enthusiastic leader, Sandy has held positions as director of the Furman University Chancel Choir, student conductor of Furman Singers, and chorus master at Aquilon Music Festival, as well as a founder and director of multiple a cappella groups. Sandy is an alumnus of Furman University, Yale School of Music, and The Ohio State University School of Music, where she studied with Dr. Scott McCoy.

2025-2026 projects:

  • Founder/director of SingSoutheast, a new voice education organization for singers, voice teachers, and choral conductors. SingSoutheast will be hosting workshops and releasing educational content this year.

  • Founder/director of The Ambiguous Six, a Georgia-based six-voice ensemble that incorporates improvisation, comedy, and more into the creation of lively vocal compositions, arrangements, and performances.

  • Premiers of vocal works, as well as the release of her arrangement of Georgia On My Mind by VOCES8 Records.
