Atlanta-based mezzo-soprano, Sandy Sharis, is an arranger of vocal music and a performer of oratorio, early music, and choral music. As a soloist, Sandy has performed in venues such as the Vatican’s St. Peter’s Basilica, Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Greyfriars Kirk, the Peace Center, Duke Chapel, the Arsht Center, Woolsey Hall, and other venues in the US and Europe. She has recently performed the mezzo-soprano/alto solos in J.S. Bach’s Johannes-Passion, Magnificat, Mass in B Minor, and Weihnachtsoratorium; Handel’s Messiah and l’Allegro; and In the Land of Uz by Judith Weir and Canticle of the Sun by Amy Beach, both of which are available for streaming through Hyperion Records.
In addition to her solo work, Sandy has enjoyed performing with choral ensembles such as Servire, Seraphic Fire, the VOCES8 US Scholars, Chicora Voices, Audivi, Kinnara, and others. She has also performed with early music groups such as The Sebastians and the Mallarmé Players.
While studying at The Ohio State University, Sandy was selected winner of their Concerto Competition and the regional NATS Artist Awards competition (Great Lakes). She was also a soloist with the OSU Men's Glee Club under Dr. Robert Ward at the 2020 OMEA Conference and performed the operatic roles of Cherubino in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro and Le Prince Charmant in Viardot's Cendrillon.
An enthusiastic leader, Sandy has held positions as director of the Furman University Chancel Choir, student conductor of Furman Singers, and chorus master at Aquilon Music Festival, as well as a co-founder and co-director of multiple treble cappella groups. Sandy is a proud alumnus of Ohio State University, where she studied with Dr. Scott McCoy.
2025 projects:
Founder/director of SingSoutheast, a new voice education organization for singers, voice teachers, and choral conductors. SingSoutheast will be hosting workshops and masterclasses in Atlanta, GA, as well as releasing a podcast and online courses beginning this year.
Release of professionally-recorded vocal arrangements through VOCES8 Records and other labels this year.
Founder/director of The Ambiguous Six, a Georgia-based six-voice ensemble that incorporates improvisation, comedy, and relatable experiences into the creation of lively compositions, arrangements, and performances.
